Masterson’s Tavern , positioned in the vibrant core of Moonee Ponds, markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I experienced behind its entrance was shocking and unacceptable on multiple levels .
The Condition of the Premises : Squalid and Abandoned
From the moment I entered , it was apparent that cleanliness was not a priority at this establishment . The surfaces were tacky , and a foul smell of uncleaned spills and uncleaned toilets polluted the entire pub. Emitting a scent of a mixture of human waste, a rotting odor and a sickly smell. The serving zone , which should be the focal point of any pub, was cluttered with dirty glasses and litter that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The lavatory was in even a truly awful state— backed up, with a broken handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was fecal matter .

For a business that serves drinks , these issues are completely unacceptable and raise serious concerns about the quality of anything they serve .
